Member Spotlight – February 2021

Peggy Gilbertson

Peggy Gilbertson joined the Zonta Club of St. Louis in 2013 and been a strong contributing member ever since:

  • Zest Co-Editor, 2014-2016
  • Awards Committee Member, 2014-current
  • WAC Co-Chair, 2016-2021
  • Sharon Carmody Awards Committee, 2020-2021
  • Nominating Committee, 2020-2021

Early on, Peggy took on the challenge of co-editing the Zonta Club of St. Louis newsletter, the Zest, which she continued for several years.

Peggy also leveraged her experience in higher education to contribute to the Awards Committee, on which she continues to serve today. The success of the Zonta Club of St. Louis in growing the presence of Scholarships and Awards offered, is attributable to the work Peggy has done in her tenure on the Committee. Peggy has been instrumental in working with Scholarship Central in listing Scholarships and Awards, including those exclusive to Zonta Club of St. Louis: Women’s Another Chance (WAC) and Sharon Carmody Award for Individuals with Disabilities and Awards sponsored by Zonta International: Young Women in Public Affairs (YWPA) Award, Jane M. Klausman Women in Business (JMK) Award, and Women in Technology (WIT) Award.

In addition to her role on the Awards Committee, Peggy has also served as a WAC Co-Chair since 2016. In the current Fiscal Year 2020-2021, Peggy is also serving on the committee for the Sharon Carmody Award and on the Nominating Committee.

Peggy also introduced Zonta Club of St. Louis to the St. Louis Diaper Bank, which has become an ongoing service project. Our club volunteers quarterly to package diapers for diaper bank clients. Additional Zonta funds and individual club member donations help support their mission to supply diapers and feminine hygiene products to those in need.

Peggy recently retired from her 30-year career with the University of Missouri St. Louis (UMSL) where she was instrumental in beginning an internship program for the College in which companies were recruited to hire students, internships were awarded, and an “academic credit” program was put into place. Peggy stays busy with serving the Mission of Zonta through Service and Advocacy. She also enjoys hiking, traveling and spending time with her growing family.

Peggy lives in Chesterfield, Missouri with her husband.
